Summary: This position will serve as the
Art Therapist for the Transforming Health & Resilience in Veterans (THRIVE) Program . The THRIVE Program will be a community-based clinical outreach program designed to provide care to Veterans who are experiencing the effects of traumatic brain injuries (TBI) or post-traumatic stress (PTS) resulting from a career serving our nation.
The three-phase program will 1) evaluate and diagnose physical, cognitive, and other health conditions during a 3-day evaluation period, 2) treat these diagnoses during a 3-week intensive outpatient program, and 3) continue to check in with the Veteran for up to 12 months following program completion. In its full capacity, the program will see approximately 150 Veterans per year and will provide a referral network and post-program follow-ups for as many as 400 Veterans and family members every year.
This is complex professional level work involving the evaluation of patient disabilities, planning, and administration of art therapy treatments. Incumbents are responsible for a specialty area and may supervise support staff. Incumbents complete documentation instruct patients, families, and students and participate in clinical program development and management. Work is performed under general supervision with all treatments being prescribed by a physician. Employees are expected to exercise initiative and discretion in formulating a program of treatments to meet the needs of individual patients. Work is reviewed and evaluated by physicians or therapist supervisors.
The ideal candidate for this position would have the following:
- A graduate level degree in counseling and art therapy as well as a license to practice therapy in the state of North Carolina.
- Experience in art therapy evaluation and treatment interventions.
- A desire and/or experience working with mild traumatic brain injury and concussion.
- Experience in trauma informed care and working with trauma related disorders.
- Experience and interest in both individual and group therapy work.
- Patient-centered care.
- An ability to use a variety of treatment modalities/approaches in relation to appropriateness of patient needs.
- Experience working in a multi-disciplinary setting and being part of a treatment team collaborating on patient care.
- A blend of strong creative and clinical skills.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Deep empathy and compassoin for working with patients.
Responsibilities: - Completes proper documentation in the medical record per department guidelines and completes department records for billing and statistics.
- Evaluates patient, sets treatment goals, devises a treatment plan and helps manage resources needed to perform treatment plan to accomplish the goals set for the patient.
- Manages a caseload with efficiency and efficacy.
- Plans and coordinates clinical art therapy group programming during three week intensive outpatient program.
Education Requirements: Graduation from AATA (American Art Therapy Association) approved program or related field.
Licensure/Certification Requirements: Current board certification in Art Therapy (ATR-BC)
Professional Experience Requirements: Experience in the field of creative art therapy is preferred.
