This position is responsible for all environmental health and safety issues on campus. Inspects all classrooms, labs, and workshops to ensure proper safety programs are in place. Ensures all faculty, staff, maintenance staff, and students (where applicable) are properly trained in the use of chemicals and equipment. Responsible for keeping accurate hazardous materials inventories. Serves as the main liaison for all OSHA related matters. This position reports to the Director of Facilities and Life Safety.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Â
Workplace Safety
Ensures that all workspaces and academic teaching spaces are routinely inspected and in proper working order.
Trains all staff on the appropriate use of all classroom and lab safety equipment.
Conducts all ergonomic accommodation assessments.
Primary liaison to the OSHA;Â primary contact for all environmental safety complaints and safety issues.
Conduct student workshops educating faculty, students, and staff on environmental safety.
Develop and communicate Standard Operating Procedures for all activities impacting environmental health and safety.
Â
Site Safety
Ensures all buildings comply with local, state, and federal building and occupancy codes.
Maintains hazardous material inventories and supervises safe disposal processes.
Responsible for all ladder and motorized lift safety procedures and staff training.
Coordinates all lockout/tag-out safety protocols.
Â
Facilities Management
Conducts and coordinates all asbestos removal testing and abatement.
Manages confined workspace program.
Conducts all indoor air quality testing and coordinates hearing safety program for all faculty and staff.
Oversee the purchase, inventory, and use of all personal protection equipment (PPE).
Â
General
Coordinating with Security Department staff and the Director of Fire and Life Safety to include EH&S considerations in all emergency response plans and procedures for the university.
Fulfill all other responsibilities, as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor degree in Environmental Health and Safety, or a related field.
5-8 years of experience working with life safety systems in an educational or commercial setting.
Knowledge and familiarity of NYC DEP and OSHA codes and regulations.
3 years supervisory experience.
Comprehensive knowledge of regulations, standards, guidelines, scientific literature, and technical issues.
Demonstrated ability to understand and interpret regulations and guidelines, and to develop and implement EOHS programs.
Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
Computer literacy.

Master's degree
Certification or licensing highly preferred
WORK MODE
Hybrid/Split - Employees hired for this position have regularly scheduled, consistent percentage of time on campus (ex 1-4x/week) and also work some of the time remotely. #LI-HYBRID
SALARY RANGE
$95,000 - $110,000
