The at Georgetown's McCourt School of Public Policy is a non-academic program established to better connect students with the political process and empower them to make it work better. Driven by a belief that better understanding can lead to more civil and productive politics, GU Politics offers a series of programs focused on practical and applied politics that offers students opportunities to directly engage with leading members of the political, governmental, journalism and advocacy communities; explore ideas to improve the process; and work to put some of those ideas into practice.

GU Politics serves the entire Georgetown community and students who participate in our programming come from both undergraduate and graduate programs, including the McCourt School which is now located at the Capitol Campus.

Job Overview

The Assistant Director of Programming, Student Engagement for GU Politics works closely with the Director of Programming to develop and execute a student engagement strategy across all programs taking place at Georgetown's Main Campus and Capitol Campus.

They oversee GU Politics' student leadership opportunities across programming verticals, including the Student Advisory Board. Drawing on their experience in advising, the Assistant Director develops and oversees a comprehensive student leadership plan that will result in growth, development, and retention of students engaged with GU Politics programming.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Manage the GU Politics' Student Advisory Board to help elevate student voices in the programmatic planning process
  • Recruit, select, and manage student strategy team members to work alongside fellows each semester
  • Develop and manage student opportunities to assist with forum programming (including 'advance' work and speaker research)
  • Execute experiential programming, managing all logistical aspects of activities - such as trips, simulations, etc.
  • Manage all logistics related to our career workshops, trainings, and networking opportunities as directed by the Director of Programming
  • Serve as the primary advisor to GU Politics leadership and staff on how to ensure that programming is accessible and appealing to students from a variety of backgrounds and parts of different communities
  • Advise student experiential programs, such as GU Votes, The Fly, and On the Record, collaborating with colleagues where applicable




Work Interactions and Work Mode Designation


Reporting to the Director of Programming, the Assistant Director of Programming, Student Engagement will eventually be a member of a team of Assistant Directors who manage different verticals of programming at the institute. As well, they will work closely with student associates and graduate assistants to execute programming.


This position has been designated as On-Campus . Please note that work mode designations are regularly reviewed in order to meet the evolving needs of the University. Such review may necessitate a change to a position's mode of work designation. Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in education, political science, government, or a related field
  • 2 to 3 years of experience in student affairs, politics, advocacy or related field
  • Interest in learning and developing opportunities for young people hoping to enter politics or public service
  • An understanding of modern political campaigning and government



The expected pay range for this position is $47,586 to $55,000 per year.


Georgetown University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as, but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity and external market pay for comparable jobs.
