Job Description

Position Title: Cardiac Sonographer 2

Location: Round Rock, TX

Shift: Full Time, Monday-Friday, 7:30 AM - 4:30 PM

Setting: Clinic and Hospital Rotation Plus Call

Sign-On Bonus: $5,000 (for external candidates only)

Minimum Rate Per Hour: $33

Maximum Rate Per Hour: $48

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE

  • Prepare patients for procedures and obtain clinical history, including cardiac-related physical findings and pertinent laboratory data, to adapt imaging techniques for comprehensive and diagnostic echocardiograms.
  • Perform basic to advanced cardiac ultrasound procedures utilizing various equipment and techniques, making necessary measurements to obtain accurate, high-quality results.
  • Identify and define cardiac abnormalities, extending the scope of the examination when necessary, and correlate invasive and noninvasive cardiac diagnostic test results with cardiac anatomy and function.
  • Assist physicians in procedure rooms and operating rooms by performing echocardiograph studies, aiding in complex procedures to decrease risk factors.
  • Assist in performing transesophageal studies with cardiologist, calculating appropriate measurements, and sterilizing the probe.
  • Record statistics and perform daily maintenance of the Echocardiography Lab and its equipment, reporting malfunctions as appropriate.
  • Act as a resource to other staff, physicians, and students regarding equipment, techniques, procedures, and studies to optimize patient care.
  • Work closely with the cardiac sonographer quality coordinator to ensure adherence to quality processes and protocols, assisting with ICAEL accreditation activities as delegated.
  • Implement protocols as new technology evolves, ensuring adherence to system echocardiography standards.

KEY SUCCESS FACTORS

  • Knowledge and ability to apply complex sonographic principles, instrumentation, and techniques.
  • Knowledge of cardiac anatomy and physiology.
  • Ability to explain the purpose of the echocardiographic examination to patients and answer their questions.
  • Knowledge of approved clinical protocols for various cardiovascular ultrasound examinations.
  • Understanding of proper infection control procedures and relevant laws regarding patient confidentiality and privacy.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written, with healthcare providers, including other sonographers, physicians, and nurses.
  • Proficiency in medical terminology and the skilled use of computers and medical equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: Graduate of an Accredited Program or 2 years of work experience above the minimum qualification.
  • Experience: Less than 1 year of experience required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire or transfer.
  • Must hold one of the following certifications at the time of hire/transfer:
  • Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) through Cardio Credentialing International (CCI).
  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) through the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).
