The campus itself is a breathtaking 70,000-square-foot facility celebrating the classic and the modern and has garnered six architectural awards. The restored building features the original 1933 Beverly Hills Post Office (on the National Register of Historic Places), which serves as the theater's dramatic yet welcoming lobby, and includes the contemporary 500-seat, state-of-the-art Bram Goldsmith Theater; the 150-seat Lovelace Studio Theater, dedicated education wing for GRoW @ The Wallis, including an enclosed outdoor education courtyard, and a n inviting open-air plaza for family, community and other performances.

ABOUT THE JOB      

The Director of Education Programs provides leadership and oversight of GRoW @ The Wallis, the umbrella for The Wallis’ innovative and mission-critical arts education programs. GRoW @ The Wallis is named for the benefactors Gregory and Regina Weingarten and the Annenberg Foundation. The Wallis believes everyone deserves to learn and grow through the arts. A highly visible representative of The Wallis, the Director of Education Programs is responsible for developing and maintaining strong relationships with various constituencies including senior leadership, staff, program participants of all ages, artists, teachers, Board members, donors, volunteers, community leaders, foundations, government, and partner agencies. This individual will exemplify and carry out The Wallis’ core values and strongly held commitment to inclusion, diversity, equity, and access at all levels of the organization.

This role supervises the Director of the Creative Aging Program , which is responsible to create, promote and direct arts education programs that serve older adults (55+), prepare artists and other educators to develop the creative capacity of older adult learners, and foster lifelong learning in and through the arts by increasing opportunities of participation for older adults.

This role supervises the Education Programs Manager , which is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day logistics and management of the student educational programs at GRoW @ The Wallis. This front-line administrator role is responsible to project-manage the execution of a comprehensive mix of education and community engagement programs, including the student matinee program, school residencies for teaching artists, and Family Fest, to name some of the specific programs.

This role supervises the Education Programs Coordinator , which is responsible for the support of the Education team and our education programs, including classes offered by The Wallis and Partners, fostering partnerships with K-12 schools, participating in the planning and implementation of department programs, liaising with student’s parents, keeping class schedules organized and communication clear and flowing.

This roles supervises the Education Programs Registrar , which is responsible for key customer-service and administrative elements of the day-to-day operations of the GRoW @ The Wallis program. Supporting on-site classes and students, this role ensures the student experience at The Wallis is a a positive one.

WHAT YOU’LL DO    

Responsibilities for the Director of Education Programs include but are not limited to: ‘

Departmental Leadership
  • Lead and manage a strong team to excellent operational results. Responsible to clearly communicate both organization-wide and departmental goals and lead the team in the achievement of those goals. Identify and manage any areas of inefficiency or potential set-backs, identify and communicate solutions, when needed;
  • Manage the Board’s education committee, provide Board reports to the Executive Director & CEO on a quarterly basis and additional updates as needed for more frequent communications;
  • Foster a work environment in which all team members are treated with respect and able to do their best work in support of The Wallis’ mission;
  • Represent The Wallis with integrity and in compliance with our company policies, both internally and externally;
Programming
  • Oversee and execute The Wallis’ comprehensive and multi-disciplinary arts education programs, ensuring successful and consistent achievement of programmatic strategic goals and objectives that are fully integrated into the organization’s long-term initiatives and strategic plan;
  • Define the vision and rationale for GRoW @ The Wallis’ educational programming. Guide strategy for all of GRoW’s programs and their implementation in our community in manifestation of the vision;
  • Collaborate with the team to create sustainable and relevant programming to compliment our presentations in the Bram Goldsmith theater and Lovelace Studio theater, helping to enrich the GRoW audiences’ engagement with the performing arts;
  • Work closely with the executive management team in developing and implementing marketing, branding and communications of education programs;
Community Engagement & Fundraising
  • Expand established strategic relationships with key community partners. Identify new opportunities to collaborate with community organizations. Serve as an ambassador and champion for The Wallis;
  • Develop methods and systems to evaluate whether the education department’s programmatic goals are being met in the eyes of our community partners;
  • Prepare and deliver presentations, represent The Wallis in community dialogues, participate in community engagement opportunities and public speaking opportunities to inform and inspire support for The Wallis;
  • In partnership with The Wallis’ Development team, assist in seeking support for the GRoW program in development functions including, but not limited to, donor cultivation, stewardship, grant management and reporting;
  • Form relationships with the Board of Directors, their networks, city officials, community leaders, and other outside groups in an effort to build opportunities for funding, partnerships, and outreach;
  • Work with The Wallis’ development team to ensure compliance for secured grant funding and ensure that the education team is providing timely, accurate, and professional information and materials to support fundraising proposals and reporting. Help to identify and evaluate new or future grant opportunities in collaboration with The Wallis’ development team;
Operations & Budget Management
  • Responsible for the fiscal integrity of the Education department and GRoW @ The Wallis’ programs. Generate, direct and hold to account an annual budget of $600k;
  • Work as a strategic partner to the Executive Director & CEO and CFO to develop short and long-term plans and budgets for education programs and their activites, including a proposed annual budget, monthly updates, and specific project or programmatical updates;
  • Track and responsibly manage budgetary income and expenses;
  • Work with the Finance team to properly track education projects or programmatical impacts to the organization’s expenses, including operational overhead costs that may fall outside the education department’s budget;
  • Negotiate business contracts and agreements entered into on behalf of the organization and submit to the Executive Director & CEO for execution; 
Team Development
  • Recruit, develop, coach, empower and motivate exceptional staff and faculty to best support the programmatic and operational goals of the education department;
  • Partner with HR in the annual performance evaluation process for education staff, define SMART goals for team members in alignment with organizational goals and strategic plan;
Thought Leadership
  • Lead efforts to define key initiatives for The Wallis’ IDE&A Program. Partner with the CEO & Executive Director and Director of Human Resources to build a systemic training approach for executive leadership and board members, and staff of The Wallis focusing on unconscious and implicit bias and inclusion, diversity, equity and access (IDE&A);
  • Stay informed of development and best practices in the field of arts education, implementing new initiatives, programs and support;
  • Stay apprised of federal, state and local legislative initiatives and progress and the potential impacts of those governmental decisions on The Wallis’ education programs;
  • Develop and coordinate means to seek regular input form key constituencies regarding the quality of arts learning programs and services at The Wallis;
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE NEEDED    
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is preferred. Some college education is required;
  • Experience that demonstrates the ability to conceptualize, design, plan, implement, administer and evaluate diverse and wide-ranging educational programs through the performing arts;
  • A passion for arts education is required. A successful candidate will most likely have experience in multi-disciplinary arts education or other educational enterprises within a performing arts or cultural institution; though, it is also possible that the individual could come from another career background and demonstrate an acumen in contemporary educational methods and philosophies, knowledge of creative program design and possess a compelling passion for arts education.
  • A proven ability to manage people, programs and budgets is essential and expected.
  • Exceptional communication skills, including public speaking skills, and writing skills are essential.
  • A strong commitment to and understanding of inclusion, diversity, equity, and access (IDE&A) and demonstrated results from effectively incorporating IDE&A into all aspects of their work.

SALARY & BENEFITS  
This is a full-time, exempt position and is not eligible for overtime. The salary range for this position is $120,000.00 to $145,000.00 per year with 100% paid medical benefits, including dental, vision and life insurance ($25,000) for the employee, paid vacation, personal and sick days, 401k and paid parking.  Complimentary tickets are occasionally available for performances and events at The Wallis.
