Position Overview:

As a Mortgage Loan Underwriter, you'll play a key role in reviewing and processing mortgage applications, ensuring all loan program requirements are met before funding. You'll work closely with the operations team to communicate credit decisions and ensure adherence to fair lending practices. Your goal will be to make sound lending decisions while maintaining high standards of production and quality.

Key Responsibilities:

- Review loan files to assess income, collateral, and creditworthiness based on specific program and product guidelines.
- Meet or exceed monthly production and quality targets.
- Stay up-to-date with corporate, investor, and regulatory guidelines.
- Communicate credit decisions and required documentation effectively with all involved parties.
- Maintain thorough records of all credit risk activities.

Qualifications:

- Experience: 5+ years in the mortgage industry with direct experience underwriting residential mortgage loans.
- Education: Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Skills:
- Experience with appraisal review and knowledge of USPAP and agency guidelines.
- Strong manual and automated underwriting skills.
- Ability to underwrite files according to FNMA/FHLMC standards.
- Proficiency in reviewing and calculating income from complex tax returns.
- Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and decision-making abilities.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
