Lift Technician

Job Summary

Lift Techs serve as a resource in the use of Safe Patient Handling (SPH) equipment and movement of all patients, including bariatric and pediatric patients. Lift Techs also serve as body mechanics and SPH coaches and trainers for staff involved in patient handling.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) or UC Davis Health CPR within three (3) months of hire.
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Training within three (3) months of hire.
  • Experience safely operating safe patient handling equipment including lifts, friction reducing devices, powered and non-powered patient equipment.
  • Experience safely operating wheelchairs, gurneys, electric beds, cribs, and special beds.
  • Experience in recognizing and reporting problems with life support equipment or a sudden change in a patient's condition.
  • Must have knowledge of basic body mechanics and safe patient lift/transfer techniques.
  • Must have good written and verbal communication skills.
  • It is the responsibility of the Lift Team to ensure the safety of our patients and staff by adhering to and enforcing the SPH policy and using SPH techniques and equipment.
  • Serve as a resource in the use of SPH equipment and movement of patients.
  • Serve as body mechanics and SPH coaches and trainers for staff involved in patient handling.
  • Strong knowledge of patient care support activities. systems, external regulations. and internal policies.
  • Knowledge of Fair Labor Practices, Collective Bargaining Agreements, and University policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated analytical experience with the ability to identify, analyze, report and resolve problems accurately and timely.
  • Knowledge and ability to exercise discretion, use good judgment and maintain confidentiality.
  • Experience establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Ability to maintain composure, respond calmly, and use sound Judgment during medical emergencies.
  • Knowledge of proper body mechanics and patient transfer techniques. and skill to transfer patients without injury to self, patient or others.
  • Knowledge of and ability to follow appropriate Infection control techniques to safeguard other patients and visitors from infected patients.
  • Knowledge of CPR. 02, IVs/pumps, feeding tubes/pumps, foley bags, and chest tubes.
  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend the English language.
  • Ability to maintain a culture that values diversity, respect and accepts the contribution of others, and supports open communication.
  • Skills to perform CPR.
  • Judgment skills to make independent clinical decisions.
  • Knowledge of legal implications for clinical practice. Ability to appropriately use available resources (personnel and equipment/supplies).
  • Ability to appropriately use available resources (personnel and equipment/supplies) to ensure that the patients on a specific unit receive safe, appropriate patient care during the course of a shift.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in-patient care setting; assisting in safe patient handling, mobility, and emergency code blue situations is highly recommended.
