Job Description

Penguin Random House, the world’s leading book publisher, seeks a Manager, Photography to join the Media Production & Development team . This team plays a key role in creating high-quality dynamic content across video, podcasts, and photography to support our books and authors. You will be part of a larger Consumer Marketing department, working alongside an innovative group of marketers, brand strategists, advertisers, creative directors, and consumer insight experts. By producing creative, best-in-class work across all marketing touchpoints, we inspire a love of reading for generations to come, connecting people with the stories they’re looking for (and some they didn’t know they needed). 

As a Manager, Photography, you’ll oversee photography projects from start to finish, capturing compelling imagery that enhances marketing efforts across multiple platforms. This is a fantastic opportunity for a photographer looking to expand their skills in a creative, fast-paced environment with room for growth. You’ll report to the Associate Director of Media Production and collaborate with teams across the company. 

Specific responsibilities include:   

  • Product & Lifestyle Photography – Photograph books and related products in our new Photography Studio, ensuring high-quality images for marketing and promotional use. 
  • Post-Production & File Management – Edit and optimize photography assets for distribution across social media platforms, retail sites, internal databases, and other channels. 
  • Event Coverage – Capture author events and book-related activities at NYC-area locations, including occasional evening events. 
  • Studio Management – Maintain the Photography Studio, manage equipment (lighting, backdrops, lenses, etc.), and assist other internal teams in utilizing the space. 
  • Scheduling & Coordination – Oversee the studio calendar, booking internal teams and ensuring smooth workflow. 
  • Creative Collaboration – Work with cross-divisional book teams to develop and execute engaging photography concepts. 
  • Portrait & Behind-the-Scenes Photography – Capture author and employee headshots, as well as behind-the-scenes moments at Video Studio shoots. 
  • Video Production Support – Assist the Media Production team during Video Studio shoots as needed.

  • 1 - 2 years of professional experience preferred.
  • Experienced in product and portrait photography (portfolio required when applying). 
  • Proficient in studio equipment (lighting setups, backdrops, tripods, C-stands, etc.). 
  • Skilled in Adobe Photoshop & Lightroom, with strong post-production expertise. 
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, capable of managing multiple projects at once. 
  • Comfortable working with Microsoft Outlook and other project management tools such as Monday—a plus but not necessary 
  • Professional and adaptable when working with authors, internal teams, and creative partners. 
  • Open to feedback and comfortable working under the direction of different designers and creative leads. 
  • A strong team player who enjoys working in a collaborative environment. 
  • Interested in learning about video production and expanding creative skills. 
  • Able to commute to our NYC office at 1745 Broadway, with the majority of work required on-site.

The salary range for this position is $73,500 - $76,000. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results.
