Job Description

Lighthouse Lab Services is seeking a dedicated and skilled Medical Technologists to join a microbiology department at a laboratory in Norfolk, VA. This position requires working the DAY or NIGHT shift, providing critical laboratory services to support patient care. The successful candidate will play a key role in performing microbiological tests and analyses, ensuring accurate and timely results to aid in patient diagnosis and treatment. 

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform routine and specialized microbiological tests on various clinical specimens, including blood, urine, tissue, and other body fluids.
• Identify microorganisms and conduct susceptibility testing to determine appropriate antimicrobial treatments.
• Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring proper calibration and function.
• Prepare and examine cultures for the presence of bacteria, fungi, parasites, and viruses.
• Maintain accurate records of all tests performed and results obtained.
• Collaborate with healthcare providers to interpret test results and provide insights into patient care.
• Ensure compliance with all laboratory safety protocols and regulations.
• Participate in quality control and quality assurance activities to maintain high standards of laboratory practice.
• Troubleshoot technical issues and implement corrective actions as needed.
• Assist in the training and mentorship of new staff and students.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Microbiology, or a related field.
• Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in a clinical microbiology laboratory.
• Strong knowledge of microbiological testing methods and laboratory techniques.
• Proficiency in the use of laboratory instruments and computer systems.
• Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Salary/Benefits/Shift:

• $25-$38/hour for an MLS (DOE)
  $19-$28/hour for MLT (DOE)

• Shifts available: DAY or NIGHT

• Full Benefits (401K, Health, Vision, Dental)
