Job Description

Job Overview:

The Plant Manager is responsible for overseeing the safe and efficient operation of the facility. This includes supervising day-to-day activities, developing staff, managing equipment and material costs, maintaining budgets, improving facility productivity, and ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and risk management standards. Additionally, the Plant Manager will be involved in customer relations, coordinating with various corporate functions, and general operations management.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Safety and Compliance: Maintain a clean and safe plant environment, ensuring an injury-free workplace for employees, contractors, and visitors through engagement, training, good practices, and proactive risk elimination.

  • Operational Leadership: Manage and lead the facility's operating system, collaborating with peers in Supply Chain, Logistics, and Purchasing to meet customer needs. Continuously improve the safety record by addressing both physical and behavioral aspects of safety, while also maintaining high housekeeping standards.

  • Production Management: Plan, organize, and oversee production and maintenance operations to maximize asset utilization. Initiate plans and processes to minimize manufacturing costs through effective use of staff, equipment, facilities, materials, and capital.

  • Continuous Improvement: Drive the attainment of business objectives and production schedules, ensuring that product standards exceed customer expectations. Implement production strategies and action plans that align with the facility's strategic initiatives.

  • Environmental and Regulatory Oversight: Oversee the facility’s environmental compliance, establishing controls and procedures to ensure ongoing adherence to regulations and fostering positive relationships with local, state, and federal agencies.

  • Cultural Leadership: Cultivate a plant culture focused on safety, efficiency, accountability, and customer awareness. Encourage employee involvement in continuous process improvement to optimize costs and efficiencies.

  • Accountability and Performance Management: Establish group and individual accountabilities across all plant departments for safety, problem-solving, and cost reduction. Promote the use of new techniques and data-driven decision-making.

  • Budget and Cost Control: Manage spending in line with budgetary constraints and adjust according to changes in production volume. Maintain and enhance staff utilization within existing departments and processes.

  • Project Management: Ensure proper planning, design, and implementation of capital and expense projects consistent with site strategy. Oversee the maintenance of site equipment and infrastructure to support optimal operational efficiency.

  • Collaboration with Senior Management: Regularly confer with senior management to ensure production objectives and business goals are met. Manage direct and indirect reports by aligning them with core values, setting performance expectations, conducting regular reviews, and facilitating professional development.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, or a related field (MBA is a plus).
  • 5+ years of experience in a senior leadership role within a manufacturing or production environment.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to coach, manage, and inspire teams in a collaborative culture.
  • Strong analytical skills, excellent interpersonal and communication abilities, and a proven track record of achieving business results.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities effectively and lead a team to success.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Proficiency in ERP systems and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Strong time management and multitasking abilities.
  • High emotional intelligence in managing customer and employee interactions.
