REPORTS TO: Director of Middle School

DIRECTLY SUPERVISES: None

STATUS: Salary , 40 hours/week, Teacher Contract

JOB SUMMARY: The Student Support & Engagement Coordinator plays a pivotal role in fostering a supportive and engaging school environment for middle school students. This individual will oversee/coordinate student support services and ensure that psychoeducational evaluations and progress monitoring are effectively managed. The Coordinator will also support student engagement in both academic and non-academic activities, including but not limited to the Middle School Student Council, Advisory, and SEL Programming. This position will play a critical role in partnering with the students, faculty, staff, and the Middle School Director. 

DETAILED RESPONSIBILITIES & ACTIVITIES (Including Physical Function)

  • Partner proactively with faculty and administration to support students with Dyslexia and LD and teachers in their efforts to advance students with learning differences.
  • Oversee the student psychoeducational evaluation process to ensure all evaluations are current and aligned with student needs.
  • Oversee the provision and monitoring of student accommodation, ensuring that individualized learning needs are met in compliance with psychoeducational recommendations and school policies.
  • Oversee student benchmarking and progress monitoring assessments, including but not limited to NWEA MAP, TMP, and IOWA, ensuring data is used to inform instruction and support student growth.
  • Develop and implement strategies for academic intervention and student success plans in collaboration with faculty and support staff.
  • Communicate progress monitoring results, recommendations, and interventions to relevant stakeholders.
  • Lead and oversee Middle School Student Council, providing guidance and mentorship to student leaders.
  • Support and enhance the Middle School Advisory Program, ensuring students receive social-emotional, executive function and academic guidance.
  • Partner with faculty to integrate student engagement initiatives into the academic and extracurricular experience.
  • Act as a liaison between faculty, administration, private evaluators, and families to support student needs holistically.
  • Ensure that all students support initiatives align with the school’s mission and values.
  • Coordinate family engagement and educational programs to foster collaboration and partnership between school and home, ensuring student success.
  • Attending parent-teacher meetings.
  • Evaluating and documenting students’ progress.
  • Work with parents, faculty, and middle school division director when academic concerns arise regarding students.
  • Represent the school at educational conferences and associations.
  • Participate in any accreditation process for the school.
  • Attend all staff meetings and staff retreats.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Middle School or the Head of School.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in student support services, academic advising, or a related role in an educational setting
  • Experience in independent schools
  • Strong knowledge of psychoeducational evaluations, student assessments, and data-driven decision-making
  • Experience with learning disabilities and differentiated instructional strategies
  • Experience working with middle school students in both academic and leadership development capacities
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and collaboration skills
  • Ability to work effectively with students, faculty, families, and external professionals
  • Exceptionally capable of both written and oral communication
  • Excellent organizational and presentation skills
  • Technologically savvy
  • Proven success at working collaboratively
  • Passionate about the chosen field of study

About The Briarwood School

The Briarwood School is a not-for-profit, independent co-ed day school devoted to educating students in grades K-12 with diagnosed learning disabilities, language disorders and/or ADHD. Founded in 1967 and accredited by Cognia, The Briarwood School serves over 300 students in small class sizes of 10 or fewer students. All of the students in Lower, Middle and Upper Schools demonstrate average to above-average intelligence with a broad range of learning disabilities that include dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia, speech/language disorders, along with written and expressive language disorders. Additional diagnoses addressed through accommodations include attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder and processing disorders as they relate to academic issues.
